About

The most beautiful Hamar has to offer

If you only have time to visit one place during your stay in Hamar, we recommend a visit to Domkirkeodden, a lovely walk from Hamar city center. Experience a wonderful outdoor area with one of Norway's largest medieval museums, which tells the story from the Viking Age, through the Middle Ages, and up to the present day.

The cathedral ruins, with their protective glass structure, are the main attraction of the museum. Here you can hear the dramatic story of how the town and the church were destroyed, and experience the fantastic acoustics through our singing guides.

The open-air museum by Lake Mjøsa contains over 60 antique buildings from the Hedmark region. The permanent exhibitions are housed in the Storhamar barn from the 18th century, converted into a museum by architect Sverre Fehn. The museum also has the country's largest museum herb garden with over 400 different plants.
